On Saturday I had a lovely day (excluding visiting the evil supermarket [more on this later]) doing a volunteer wildflower survey for Plantlife at Basildon Park (see Facebook for pics). I have bought a house! It is not where I started my search as it is a slightly downmarket town these days (it used to be a nice village!), but it has countryside almost on the doorstep and a short walk brings you to a chain of picturesque villages and some recommended country pubs. I may complain about the stress of my job, but I am currently tendering for a project involving various ecological and hydrological surveys along all 210km of a river I grew up with. When I stop and think about this it seems bloody amazing. I have a lot to be grateful for, and to think, this wasn't/isn't even my first career choice!
